The season kicks off at the Kirk!!

The winter break is over and spring is in the air. The long weekend heralds the start of another party season. First up is the long weekend coming up with Indulgence on Friday, Sleaze on Saturday. There is no Toybox this weekend as they are saving their energies for the big New Years Day at the Hordern, so we do not need to re-open the doors as we have done on previous occasions.

Our venue is the Kirk and we thank Tony McGrath in advance for bringing his Toybox production skills to enliven yet again another MEN party.

June Long Weekend Recovery

The Sleaze Recovery will be such a contrast to the last party held over the June long weekend. It was a wild night weather-wise with rain and wind raging through the back yard of Will ’s and Colin’s house in Baptist St . With Ollie they had set up the tarps over the yard, the heater cannon was on with the blast on full boar to heat the place up. It must have been the coldest night of the year I’d reckon, so cold, so wet that we wondered whether anyone would turn up at all. Dom inic and Rob ert were on the front desk ready and waiting as the rain came down even harder. True to form da boyz started to arrive and we ended up having just about as many as the house could comfortable handle. So it proved that even tempest and gales cannot keep MEN guys away from a party! Thanks to Terry and Matt J. for handling the bar with efficiency. Mal colm and Rob ert for helping set up, then Ollie, Will and Colin who got the tarps over the back yard to keep us warm. Michael for climbing on to the roof to get the tarps back down again. Bill and Darren and all the guys who cleaned up allowing Mal colm to come in and clean the next day.

Looking Ahead

It is at this time of year that questions always arise about our structure, our philosophy, our relevance as younger generations start coming through the door. MEN began as one response to the number of guys who were dying of AIDS in the early 90s; prehistory for some who count in gay years. It was risqué, hidden and secret. Most would argue it still is as we assemble a couple of hundred hot naked men in a church. However things have changed naked sex parties are run successfully in commercial venues and saunas, our concept is becoming more mainstream as the sex venues promote a culture of safe sex nowadays. The medical situation has improved with new drugs coming along all the time.

But MEN parties are still packing ‘em in. We have Byron Bay on January 1 planned, post Mardi Gras is booked. With Ken having stepped down we need some more guys to step up and take a leadership role in the organisation of parties or there will be no more.

Our AGM will be held in October after Sleaze. You will be notified of the time and place after this party.
