Last
Hurrah for the Kirk!
Well
boyz, this is the last party at the Kirk! Two Underwear parties
and four huge MEN parties and now it is at an end. We thank Gretel
and manager John for all their incredible support over the years
and we are sorry to read newspaper reports that the finances
have not been sufficient to maintain a dream venue as the creditors
move in and we witness the closure of an icon in Sydney’s
folklore. So if you have never been to a Kirk party this is your
last chance.

Meeting
So
again we are in strife with venues. The organisation of MEN has
always been a flexible network of friends who get together to
put on parties. Sure, there is a core group who get mentioned
each newsletter for their passion, contribution and innovation
as well as a broad group of volunteers. In fact being on the
list implies a willingness to help out from time to time.
So we need to call a meeting for everyone so that we can get some
ideas. Venues have to be safe and insured, so the empty swimming
pool, that derelict warehouse are unsuitable. Also the owners must
be aware of the type of event. So after the Sleaze party you will
be notified when and where.

QLD
MEN group
Brisbane
has a version of our MEN parties. Arthur and Chris have done
a great job in assembling horny sex minded men to get together
from time to time. They have adapted our model to their own local
conditions (as they should) and rented an apartment on the 23rd
floor of a building in Margaret Street Brisbane. The feeling
was magic as the golden orb of the full moon rose over the horizon
caused the men to get twitchy before pantsdown. Their parties
have been going for a year now and deserve our support if you
are ever in Brisbane. The party was well thought out, well organised
and all had a great time.

HIV
The
policy of MEN is and has been since the earliest days … safe
sex. The “always” was added a few years back as part
of our mantra to emphasise to everyone that it is NOT negotiable.
Yes, the situation has improved medically. Yes, a new generation
has emerged who have no experience of the excruciating tragedies
of previous years now that HIV is a more manageable condition.
Of course we all respect the rights of everyone to manage their
own sexuality, to make decisions for themselves based on the
evidence before them. However not at MEN parties.
Now
we have a pretty good record and rarely do we have to tap guys
on the shoulder. We have guys allocated at the door to deliver
the safe sex message, and occasionally we get attitude from new
comers who are miffed at being told of the expectations of the
MEN community. And it is a community, a community who has the
right to fuck safely and expect others to do the same. Sometimes
we get reports from guys who have seen barebacking going on and
the question begging is: "Well what did you DO about it?"
"Duh ... nothing."
Well,
MEN is YOUR party and it is your responsibility to do the shoulder
tapping, pass the condoms, stand up for what you believe in and
say something because no one wants a party where the sex police
are going round with torches. That would ruin the essential eroticism
of the event. It is the responsibility of everyone to ensure
that everyone is safe in our sex space.
