The
venue for Byron Bay is the MEN house. This has worked extremely
well in the last few years in that there is plenty of room
and the house is private yet centrally located in Suffolk Park.
It is different from Sydney parties, much more laid back and
relaxed, with guys from Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast
but also a few locals from Ballina, Lismore and Byron. We collect
a few beach gods from Kings Beach and play in the failing sunset,
tanned, serene and in a holiday mood.
This
will be our fifth Byron party and what makes it so special
is that
a holiday mood takes over, with guys looking good from
the beach and the stress free feeling of not having to go to
work. Tropical Fruits is always a hoot where hot men appear from
the woodwork or travel from the capitals. Last year’s fireworks,
lighting and music were superb. They come from miles around,
last year’s contingent from Brisbane were welcomed and
we expect many will again make the trek. For those who enjoy
smaller parties and who prefer low intensity are those ready
for a treat in Byron over New Year.

Two
newsletters at once.
We
thank those who throw in a donation of more than is expected.
At each party many of you guys are very generous at the front
door. A bit extra helps keep the finances in order so we send
you notification of the two end-of-year parties in the one envelope.
Feedback from previous Byron parties suggested releasing the
details earlier so that they could plan more confidently and
make decisions about where they wanna be New Year’s Eve.

Hot
yet Warm – Karl
Karl you may have seen on the bar at one of the parties. He
is often seen wearing a puppy mask behaving in canine abandon.
Thanks for your pics Karl.

Database
At
the moment Rod does all the changes to the database by hand,
which in the long term is no longer viable as it is so time consuming,
so last year we decided that we wanted to link the data base
to the website so that guys could up update their details themselves,
much like Gaydar does with the “change my details” section.
We thank those guys who have had a go at trying to do this but
it just has not happened yet. To do this professionally is beyond
us financially so if anyone has skills to volunteer in this area
we would like to hear from you.

Summer
Parties
There
had been some demand for a summer party over the Australia Day
at the end of January. Trouble is most of the regular organisers
are away in Byron Bay during summer and a mail out would have
to be done mid January, a venue found and someone would need
to get on the phones to coordinate and staff it. We could even
run
New Year’s Day parties in Sydney as well as Byron Bay if
we had a team of guys staying in Sydney to organise it. This
Christmas party is our only summer party in Sydney so let us
know if you would like to be involved and give it a go.

Rod
Finally,
we ask again for help. After 8 years managing the database Rod
has decided that the two jobs of Secretary and Website Manager
are too much, so we need a secretary, someone with database
MS Access skills. Basically the task involves keeping the database
details up to date, printing out the door list for each party,
printing labels for the mail out and answering email correspondence.
Rod’s commitment to MEN over the years has kept the group
going, he has energised and organised us, he started the Byron
Bay tradition in 2000, he co-ordinated the SubVersion parties
a few years back. So if you can assist please let us know.
