MEN started out as an idea of two of our guys in the year leading up to the 1994 Sydney Leather Pride’s Inquisition Party when they saw all these gorgeous men on the dance floor with an evident amount of sexual energy with nowhere to go other than the toilets or our local sauna. So, he left the party and raced home to his computer and designed a simple invitation to a recovery party at his place at 9 AM. He returned to the dance party and gave them out to the most beautiful men on the dance floor. He had 17 guys turn up! Thus the format began. Over the years the invitations became more professional, the invitation list became more organised and discriminating. Organisers learned from their mistakes and passed down a corporate memory to a new group. Guys began to define what they wanted, write it down. It was worth continuing. Also Kell had been running fuck parties at his home for years, the infamous Titanic party for instance and Kell’s 40th White party stand in prominence. Kell and Tim joined forces in 1996 and we now have what M.E.N is today. Always trying to be ahead of the trend, in 1997 they had cocktails beforehand, two memorable parties in the Botanical Gardens, moving slightly closer to the edge by using Threshold in Redfern in 1997 and subVersion in Surry Hills in 1999 parties became more varied and accessible to a wider range of taste from the merely vanilla to the raging fist fucking in slings. Nowadays we use a variety of venues from private houses to raunchy warehouses. In 1998 the annual RezErection Underwear Party began at the "Kirk" in Cleveland Street followed by another in 1999 but quickly outgrew its premises until in 2000 we moved to Palladium in Kings Cross. In 2001 Base, again in Kings Cross, was a great success. 2002 saw us in Bohem, the restaurant above GAS near Central Station. 2003 we used the Midnight Shift in Oxford Street, Sydney. In 1999 we had our first Country Weekend which gave guys the opportunity to spend a longer time together, become friends and do some serious male bonding. Commercial venues will gradually catch up, change will occur as the MEN community steps out of its closet and anonymity, but the feeling of a sub-culture, a secret society that is inclusive of hot, good-looking MEN who are body proud combined with a warmth and friendliness rarely found in bars will help MEN explore the limits of their sexuality, the boundaries of their imagination, the horizons of the erotic experience … and a great fuck! |
